Hyderabad: Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Tuesday said the Telangana govt has secured an in-principle approval from the Union road transport and highways ministry for several key road infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion, reducing travel time and improving connectivity between rural areas and urban centres across the state.
Gadkari also assured the Komatireddy-led delegation that the tendering process for the expansion of NH-65 would be completed in Nov, with construction scheduled to commence in Jan 2027.
In a significant development for Hyderabad’s eastern corridor, the R&B minister said Nitin Gadkari approved the proposed elevated corridor between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar to address growing traffic congestion in the rapidly developing area. Komatireddy, along with tourism minister Jupally Krishna Rao, MP Mallu Ravi, govt whip Beerla Ilaiah and officials, met Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to discuss proposals for highways, bridges, elevated corridors and ropeways in Telangana.
Responding positively to Komatireddy’s proposal for an elevated corridor along the Hyderabad–Srisailam stretch of NH-765, the Union minister directed officials to prepare a fresh DPR for the project. Meanwhile, Komatireddy invited Nitin Gadkari to attend the Indian Road Congress (IRC), scheduled to be held in Hyderabad from Nov 19 to 22.
Komatireddy said Gadkari had also approved the proposal to establish five ropeways in Telangana under the Parvatmala scheme to promote tourism and improve access to major tourist destinations. The projects are expected to make travel more convenient for tourists, create local employment opportunities and stimulate economic activity in surrounding areas. Gadkari also responded positively to the proposal for a Hyderabad–Amaravati greenfield highway, which is expected to strengthen road connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The minister also sought the upgradation of state highways connecting Pullur, Alampur, Jatrapole, Pentlavelli, Kollapur, Lingala, Achampet, Dindi, Devarakonda, Mallepalli and Nalgonda to national highways.
The proposed bridge between Somasila and Sangameswar is expected to shorten the distance to Tirupati by around 80 km and reduce travel time by nearly three hours, Komatireddy said. The Union minister agreed to the proposal to lay the foundation stone for an iconic cable-stayed bridge across the Krishna river on NH-167K to strengthen road connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
