A close associate of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Surekha had served in his Cabinet before quitting the Congress following his death in a helicopter crash in 2009.

In a separate post, he said: “To every elder sister, younger sister. Speaking to reporters after the celebrations, Surekha said she had tied a rakhi to the chief minister, as she had done over the past two years. “I do not want to comment on this auspicious festive day,” she said. In the video, Surekha, along with Women and Child Welfare Minister Seethakka, is seen tying a rakhi to Revanth Reddy during Raksha Bandhan celebrations. The gesture came amid speculation over whether Surekha would be welcomed at the chief minister’s residence, particularly after reports that Revanth was upset over her silence on her daughter’s comments. Her participation in the celebrations appeared to underline a distinction between political differences and personal or cultural occasions. Surekha was one of only two women in Revanth Reddy’s Cabinet. The other is Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister D Anusuya, popularly known as Seethakka. After the celebrations, Revanth Reddy posted on X: “On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, which stands as a symbol of the bond between sisters and brothers, ministers Seethakka and Konda Surekha tied rakhis. The TPCC disciplinary committee subsequently recommended action against Surekha for failing to condemn her daughter’s remarks. The committee also took into account her differences with Congress MPs, MLAs and MLCs from Warangal district. The four-time MLA from Wanaparthy faced disciplinary action after accusing the Congress leadership of favouring turncoats over long-time loyalists. He was also engaged in a running feud with sitting Wanaparthy MLA T Megha Reddy. Chinna Reddy had headed the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s disciplinary body before being appointed Planning Board vice-chairman. She reiterated that her daughter was an adult and that her remarks should not be linked to her.
