Lucknow: Twelve people were arrested after a marriage-related dispute escalated into a violent clash, leading to stone-pelting and an alleged attack on a police team in Chamrpur village along the Gonda-Utraula road in Balrampur district.
Police were informed around 12.30 pm about the disturbance. All 12 accused were arrested. Members of both sides gathered with sticks, iron rods and bricks and began pelting stones at each other, creating tension in the locality, according to police. Some accused picked up sticks, iron rods and bricks and chased the police team, forcing officers to withdraw temporarily to prevent the situation from worsening, according to the complaint. Police said the team had initially gone to mediate the dispute but faced resistance from some villagers who objected to police intervention.
The incident occurred in the Karbala area of Mauza Chamrpur, where an argument between two groups over a marriage proposal reportedly turned violent. A team led by sub-inspector Ramzada Yadav, along with other police personnel, rushed to the spot to restore order. However, police alleged that those involved in the clash turned hostile towards the team, abused the personnel and threatened them. No police personnel was injured. The violence soon spilled onto the busy Gonda-Utraula road, where protesters allegedly hurled stones, triggering panic among commuters and local residents. Traffic movement was disrupted for some time as people rushed to safety. Based on the complaint lodged by SI Ramzada Yadav, police registered a case against Noor Mohammad, Mehtab Ali, Sartaj Ali, Abdullah, Sajan, Barkat Ali, Azam Ali, Minaz Ali, Aziz, Nausher Ali, San Mohammad and Mohammad Jarir, all residents of Karbala in Mauza Chamrpur.
