Police seized 36.94 quintals of illegal firecrackers and arrested four people near Umarai Mod in Mahoba

Kanpur: During a campaign against unauthorised sale and transportation of fireworks during festivals, police seized 36.94 quintals of illegal firecrackers and arrested four people near Umarai turn in Mahoba on Friday. Acting on information given by an informer, police cordoned off the area, stopped a DCM truck and two tractor-trolleys and after a thorough search seized 189 cartons of ‘machis patakha’ and 50 cartons of sutli bombs weighing 3,694 kg.

During interrogation, Jalaluddin said he had a licence to manufacture firecrackers but produced fireworks beyond the prescribed limit which he was transporting to Madhya Pradesh without permission. Police arrested Jalaluddin , his sons Raees and Arman, and Shivpuri resident Dharmendra Rajput. Police also seized the DCM truck and tractor-trolleys under the Motor Vehicles Act when the drivers could produce necessary documents of the vehicles. A case was registered against the four accused under relevant sections of the Explosives Act. Police are investigating who else was involved in the alleged illegal manufacture and supply network and the intended recipient of the consignment in Madhya Pradesh.
