The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kanpur: A 38-year-old woman died under suspicious circumstances at her home in Pardevanpurwa, Lal Bangla, in Kanpur’s Chakeri police station area on Saturday, with her parental family alleging dowry harassment and medical negligence by her in-laws.

He said disputes between the two families had earlier led to complaints being lodged at the police station. The deceased woman’s father, Gorelal, alleged that his daughter had been unwell for the past week and that her in-laws, instead of getting her treated, allegedly starved her, harassed her over dowry demands and neglected her medical care, which eventually led to her death. The family created a ruckus at the hospital, following which police were informed. Binu’s parental family demanded an impartial inquiry into her death and action on the allegations. Police arrived at the hospital premises and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Chakeri station house officer Ajay Prakash Mishra said further action would be taken after the post-mortem report is received and the investigation is completed.
