47-year-old Kanpur surgeon shoots himself dead after argument with wife

Dr Sandeep Singh had an argument with his wife before taking the revolver into another room.

KANPUR: A 47-year-old government doctor allegedly died by suicide at his apartment in Kanpur following an argument with his wife, news agency PTI reported quoting police.

Police said Singh’s wife, Kanchan, rushed into the room after hearing a gunshot and found him on the floor. Family members immediately took him to Regency Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, commissioner of police Raghubir Lal told PTI. Police said the couple had reportedly argued shortly before Singh went into the room with his revolver. Deputy commissioner of police (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary said forensic teams had taken possession of the revolver and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination. The family told police that Singh subsequently went to the prayer room, where he allegedly shot himself while sitting in front of the shrine. Police said further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Preliminary investigation suggests that a marital dispute may have preceded the incident. The surgeon reportedly used his licensed revolver in the incident on Sunday night.

If anything else emerges, it will be shared with the media,” Lal told PTI further. “A detailed investigation will be conducted.
