Prayagraj : A 22-year-old Dalit youth allegedly died by suicide after hanging himself in the restroom of the investigation room inside the Patti police station in Pratapgarh early Monday.
However, the girl’s father again lodged an FIR against Arjun on Aug 17, under Section 137(2) of the BNS, accusing him of abducting his daughter on Aug 16.
Additional SP (Pratapgarh East) Alok Kumar said, “The accused went to the toilet on the police station premises on the pretext of relieving himself and hanged himself. Upon being alerted, senior police officials, including SP (Pratapgarh) Deepak Bhuker, along with forensic experts and police forces, rushed to the spot and carried out investigations. Arjun alias Shailesh, who was wanted in a minor girl’s abduction case, had been arrested and brought to the police station on Sunday and was to be produced in court on Monday. Acting on the complaint, a team of Patti police found Arjun and the girl in Ghaziabad and brought them to Patti police station on Sunday.
Following this, no criminal case was established against the youth.
However, cops later recovered the girl from Hyderabad, where she stated before the court that she had escaped after being scolded by her family members.
