Bareilly: A key accused in the Sept 26, 2025, Bareilly violence case, Mobeen Baig, who had been absconding since the incident, was arrested from his house in Faridapur Chaudhary locality of Bareilly.

Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC) chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza had visited Faridapur on Sept 19, 2025, according to an official police statement detailing his interrogation. During the meeting, an announcement was made urging maximum public assembly at Islamia Ground following Friday prayers on Sept 26. Despite the administration denying permission, a large crowd assembled at Islamia Ground on Sept 26, leading to widespread clashes and citywide violence. Police have so far arrested 114 individuals in connection with the unrest, including IMC chief Tauqeer Raza. Out of those arrested, 72 have been released on bail while 24 remain behind bars.

A key planning meeting was initially held at local councillor Nasir Khan’s residence before shifting to Baig Baratghar. Protesters allegedly targeted police forces with acid and petrol bombs, while rioters looted an anti-riot gun and wireless equipment. Chargesheets have been formally filed in all related cases, and Raza’s bail applications were subsequently rejected by both the high court and Supreme Court.

CO (City-I) Ashutosh Shivam confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently probing the Baradari police station case—in which 29 individuals, including Raza, are named—and added that Baig has been booked and remanded under the same charges.
