Varanasi: A Tamil play, “Bharathi Yaar?” (Who is Bharathi?), was staged at Banaras Hindu University on Friday to mark the 105th Memorial Day of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati.
Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said for the first time, the university had organised a Tamil-language stage production based on an Indian literary work. The performance was held at Malaviya Moolya Anusheelan Kendra. Presented by the Subramania Bharati Chair and Rangshala, the University Theatre Cell, the production depicted the poet’s journey, literary legacy and visionary ideas. It highlighted Bharati’s contribution to Indian literature and his progressive vision for society. Inaugurating the play, Vice-Chancellor Prof. The play was performed by S B Creations, Chennai, directed by SBS Raman, with dialogues by Isaikkavi Ramanan and music by Baradwaj Raman.Dance performances were presented by students of Khileshwari Patel from Faculty of Performing Arts.
