Accused SDMs placed on ‘waiting list’ after row over fresh postings — Pilibhit voter rigging

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

The two SDMs were recently pulled up by the state CEO for their alleged role in “irregularities and tampering” of over 13,000 votes in Pilibhit’s 127-Sadar assembly seat as electoral registration officers. Pilibhit : UP govt has placed accused sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) Hemant Kumar Chaudhary and Mayank Goswami on ‘waiting list’ and also shifted them to state headquarters, ADM/assistant district election officer Prasoon Dwivedi told TOI in Pilibhit on Saturday.

TOI had earlier reported that Pilibhit DM Alok Kumar recommended the removal of both SDMs from the district to eliminate any possibility of influencing a criminal probe that was initiated following an FIR against the tainted duo on Oct 22. Meanwhile, following the announcement by Pilibhit DM on Saturday regarding a month-long voter list revision drive scheduled from Nov 12, AICC member Kumud Gangwar appealed to all eligible persons to actively participate in the democratic exercise. He alleged that Form 7, which is used for objections and deletion of names, was heavily misused.

Samajwadi Party leader and former minister Hemraj Verma claimed on Friday that Chaudhary was initially assigned as officer on special duty in the disaster management department while Goswami was posted as settlement officer at land consolidation headquarters in Lucknow, and was “placed on waiting list” only after opposition parties raised the matter. “Why are officers already named in an FIR lodged at Pilibhit being rewarded? Govt is actually trying hard to protect those who helped in vote chori,” Verma added. Download the TOI App.
