Agra: With winter approaching and fog expected to reduce visibility, the Agra divisional administration has directed Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) to lower speed limits on the Yamuna Expressway and Agra-Lucknow Expressway and install additional signboards to alert motorists.
Officials informed the meeting that, according to a UP transport department report data, Firozabad recorded 418 road accidents and 246 deaths between Jan and Sept 2026. Compared with the corresponding period in 2025, accidents increased by 4.8%, from 399 to 418, while fatalities rose by 15%, from 214 to 246. The district was among the top 10 in Uttar Pradesh in terms of the rise in road accident deaths.
Every toll plaza must have a fully equipped modern fire tender, for which a survey was ordered, he said. Officials were also asked to trim roadside trees to ensure the visibility of signboards, repaint white and yellow road markings, increase the number of ambulances and cranes, and undertake corrective work at identified accident-prone spots. The commissioner directed officials to ensure adequate CCTV surveillance on the expressways. The district road safety committee was directed to take special measures to bring down the numbers.
