Lucknow: Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday expressed concern over the rising incidence of heart attacks and lifestyle diseases among young people, stressing the need for preventive healthcare and healthier lifestyles.

Addressing The Week Metabolic Health Summit 2026 in Lucknow, Pathak said obesity, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity and stress were major factors behind the growing burden of disease. He said several ailments that were once associated with old age were now increasingly affecting younger people, making awareness and prevention crucial. Simple measures like brisk walking, climbing stairs and routine household work could help people stay fit,” he said. Highlighting obesity as a major challenge, Pathak advised people to monitor their food intake and avoid excessive consumption of carbonated soft drinks and energy drinks. “Regular physical activity is essential. He also called on newspapers, television channels and social media platforms to support public awareness campaigns on healthy living. He stressed public participation in preventing dengue, malaria, chikungunya and encephalitis.
