Agra district magistrate Manish Bansal inspects the under-construction Shivaji museum

Agra : Around 80% of the civil work at the under-construction Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Agra has been completed, with the remaining work targeted for completion by Dec 15, district magistrate Manish Bansal said on Wednesday. Spread across 5.9 acres near Taj Mahal’s eastern gate, the museum is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 198 crore.

“The executing agency has been directed to speed up the remaining work while maintaining construction quality and adhering to prescribed standards for interiors, lighting and display systems,” Bansal told TOI. It will showcase Maratha history and Uttar Pradesh’s cultural heritage through modern technology, including an immersive 7D experience recreating Shivaji Maharaj’s escape from Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s captivity at Agra Fort.

The museum will feature dedicated sections on the heroes of the 1857 uprising, the state’s festivals and religious traditions, major rivers, Agra’s architectural heritage, ancient weapons and biodiversity. During an inspection, officials briefed Bansal on the progress of the galleries and exhibits, which are being developed alongside the civil construction. The DM also inspected the under-construction Unity Mall and reviewed its progress, including the workforce deployed at the site. He directed officials and the executing agency to expedite construction without compromising on quality. Bansal asked the agencies concerned to complete both projects within their stipulated timelines and submit regular progress reports.
