The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Agra: Uday Singh, a 50-year-old resident of Saiyan, has ended a four-year vow following the recovery of his licensed rifle, a family heirloom. The rifle was reported stolen from his home in 2022. In a personal commitment, Singh had refrained from cutting his hair or shaving his beard until the firearm was found. The police confirmed the retrieval of the rifle on Tuesday, marking a significant moment for Singh after years of waiting.

His wait finally ended on Tuesday when police arrested the suspected burglar, Dhruv Singh , 30, carrying the licensed rifle. Police also recovered two live .315-bore cartridges, Rs 50,000 in cash and a motorcycle from him. A reward of Rs 10,000 had earlier been announced for his arrest and was later increased to Rs 25,000.

Police said Dhruv was a habitual burglar and had three cases registered against him at Kagarol police station. During questioning, Dhruv allegedly confessed to carrying out several thefts with his associates, police said. DCP (West) Aditya said, “Dhruv was arrested following coordinated action by teams from Kheragarh police station, SOG and surveillance teams.

Despite personal difficulties, including his wife allegedly leaving for her parental home after getting upset over his decision, he continued to keep the vow. After the recovery, Uday thanked the police team and went to get a haircut and trim his beard, ending his four-year vow. Police are searching for two other suspects, identified as Bablu and Anirudh. Dhruv had as many as nine criminal cases pending against him at various police stations in Agra.”

Since then, Singh had been following up with police while continuing to work at the college, visiting police officers after finishing work each day.
