Akhilesh’s appeal came on a day when 19-year-old Uttarakhand girl Ankita Bhandari’s parents – father Virendra Singh Bhandari and mother Soni Devi – protested at the India Gate in Delhi against the appointment of BJP’s Dushyant Kumar Gautam as the Sikkim Governor.
Bhandaris have repeatedly linked Gautam’s name to the alleged “VIP angle” in the 2022 murder of Ankita – a receptionist at resort in Rishikesh. The SP chief said BJP leadership in Delhi may have chosen to overlook the controversy involving the Sikkim governor’s pick, it now remains to be seen if UP CM addresses the issue. Gautam has denied the allegations and filed a defamation complaint in Jan this year. “People who talk about Rajya Sabha should also speak about BJP’s controversial pick for the post of Sikkim governor. Does the UP chief minister have any responsibility towards the daughter of Uttarakhand? He has left Uttarakhand but has he left his moral values as well? We will see if UP CM will condemn the sinful crime committed against the girl or will he remain silent,” Akhilesh wrote in a post on X in HIndi. “We appeal to him (UP CM) to vehemently oppose the decision to appoint a crime accused as a governor.

SP MP Dimple Yadav also attacked the BJP over its governor pick. In a statement on Wednesday, Dimple said the people of the country expected that the BJP will probe threadbare the allegations of its party leader Dushyant Gautum’s link to Ankita Bhandari case but people were surprised to see the BJP having appointed him the Governor.
