Bijnor : Police have arrested two alleged members of a gang accused of threatening people with rape, gangrape, Pocso and SC/ST Act cases to extort money in the name of settling criminal complaints.
An FIR was registered on Sept 12 on a complaint by Sanjeev Kumar , a resident of Begrajpur village in Najibabad, police said. Police said Ravita had earlier lodged a complaint against Sanjeev at Haldaur police station and later allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh to settle the matter, threatening to implicate him in a rape case.When Sanjeev allegedly refused to pay, another woman lodged a gangrape complaint against him and others. Police said five complaints or cases had allegedly been initiated against Sanjeev as part of the plan, while 12 other alleged members of the gang had earlier been arrested and sent to jail.
The allegations were investigated and found to be unsubstantiated, following which a final report was submitted to the court, police said. Bijnor SP Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said the case was registered under relevant provisions of BNS, with police examining the alleged misuse of provisions of the Pocso and SC/ST Acts in earlier complaints. The accused were identified as Ravita Gautam, alias Ravita Devi, of Khedki Tappa village and Naushad of Bakshiwala. The role of other suspects and whether similar complaints were allegedly used to extract money from other people are being investigated, he added.
