Fortnight after HC allows Shamli man to ‘live as he wants’, his father files case against his Muslim friends for ‘unlawful conversion’
The FIR further alleged that on Sept 18, Sultan came to Devraj and claimed Ayush had been converted again, and told him to convert with his family and transfer part of his property to both the accused. Devraj alleged that they would be killed and their property seized if they refused.
Latest complaint follows a Sept 16 HC order. Ayush had told the court that he embraced Islam voluntarily in 2014 and wished to marry Chandni Qureshi, a physiotherapist, whom he met in 2018.
Meerut/Shamli: Less than two weeks after Allahabad high court allowed a 31-year-old man from Shamli to live with “whomever he chose and wherever he wanted”, his father registered a fresh FIR on Tuesday alleging his son’s friend and a Deoband cleric have threatened the family and conspired to seize his property. He alleged that some people, eyeing the family’s property, “brainwashed” his son and got him converted through threats and inducement. He also claimed his son later returned to Hinduism after a “family discussion”. However, he blamed Sultan for taking him away again — after the HC order — to an unknown place to “help him live independently” and he has been untraceable since.
Justice Sandeep Jain freed Devraj’s son, Ayush Malik, a BPharma graduate, on habeas corpus petition filed by Sultan. Devraj’s FIR tells a different story though. Ayush’s shop has also suffered financial losses, he claimed.
