Bijnor: Police have arrested two men for allegedly disguising themselves as Naga sadhus to gain the trust of a couple and steal their gold jewellery on a highway in Bijnor district, officials said.

Jahangir , 45, and Gurvinder, 40, both from Haridwar district in neighbouring Uttarakhand, were arrested in Bijnor’s Najibabad on Saturday. Police said one of the recovered rings linked the suspects to an earlier robbery reported in February. Bijnor SP Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said one of the men dressed as a Naga sadhu and approached a woman from Pauri Garhwal who was travelling with her husband. “The men then stole her gold ring, mangalsutra and chain,” he said. During questioning, the men admitted to robbing another couple on the same highway a few days earlier, and had travelled to Bijnor to sell the stolen jewellery, police said.

Police arrested the suspects on a motorbike and recovered several pieces of jewellery, including a gold chain, rings, and a mangalsutra with black beads. Download the TOI App.

Legal Action Initiated in Financial Fraud Case

A case has been filed against a suspect based on a complaint from the husband of a woman allegedly involved in financial fraud. The complaint cites violations of sections 318(4) and 309(2) of the BNS, which pertain to financial fraud through dishonest inducement and theft classified as robbery, respectively, according to Police Officer Bishnoi.
