Mumbai: A day after a woman was killed in a road crash in Malad, the 70-year-old motorist accused of crashing into her bike and three other vehicles was released on bail by a Borivli magistrate court on Monday. The accused, Krishna Chamankar, was released on a cash bond of Rs 15,000. Priyanka Satra (34) was on the pillion and husband Mayank was riding the bike when Chamankar hit them and three autos with his car on Sunday night at the junction of S V Road and Mamlatdaar wadi.

Police said Chamankar remained seated in the vehicle after the crash as a crowd gheraoed him. Senior officials said they are reviewing CCTV footage from the police station. He was removed from the car by police and taken to Malad police station. Passersby rushed Priyanka to Suchak Hospital in Malad, where she was pronounced dead. An injured Mayank managed to hail an auto to the nearest private hospital and called his brother there. Six others were injured in the accident. The couple’s family has alleged that Chamankar was given preferential treatment at Malad police station while in custody. Download the TOI App.
