Accused Arjun Sharma
Sharma was nabbed from Agra on Aug 24 by a police team from Telangana. According to an FIR registered at Lalaguda police station in Telangana’s Secunderabad based on a complaint by the victim’s father, Anand Godishala, Sharma allegedly stabbed Nikitha Godishala (27) to death in his Maryland apartment on Dec 31, 2025. The police complaint said that Nikitha and Sharma met while pursuing master’s degrees in the US and had lived together with friends in Maryland between 2022 and 2024. Sharma lost his job around Aug–Sept 2025, and he and his mother allegedly borrowed money from Nikitha and her family. On Dec 31, Sharma persuaded Nikitha to visit his apartment on the pretext of repaying $4,000. US police discovered Nikitha’s body in his apartment on Jan 3.
He then killed her, filed a misleading missing-person report with US police on Jan 1, and siphoned “$4,000 to $5,000” from her credit card before fleeing to India on Jan 2. Agra (city) DCP Sayed Ali Abbas told TOI: “Agra police gave necessary support to the team from Telangana in arresting Sharma. He was hiding at Shankar Green Residential Society in Ekta police station area. The Telangana police action followed an Interpol Red Corner Notice and an extradition appeal from authorities in the US. The case against Sharma and his mother has been lodged under BNS sections for criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating and destroying evidence. After completing their studies, Nikitha and Sharma started working in Maryland. Local cops from Ekta police station, led by SHO Saurabh Singh, aided in the effort.
The Delhi court had earlier issued an arrest warrant, ordering that the accused Arjun Sharma (27), a native of Chennai, be taken into custody. It noted that the charges meet the criteria for extradition under the India-US Extradition Treaty. Proceedings regarding the extradition request and evidence are on.
Agra: A fugitive software engineer wanted by US authorities for allegedly murdering his former girlfriend in Maryland over a monetary dispute was nabbed from Agra, where he was hiding in an apartment, and was produced before the court of additional CJM at Patiala House, Animesh Bhaskar Mani Tripathi, in Delhi.
Following the US investigation, American authorities charged Sharma with murder and assault, prompting an Interpol Red Corner Notice.
