Dhaba owner, sister-in-law missing after jumping into Gomti

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Lucknow: A 45-year-old dhaba owner and his 23-year-old sister-in-law have gone missing after allegedly jumping into Gomti river from Ghailla bridge in Madiaon area on Sunday, triggering a major search operation by police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

Teams from Madiaon and Thakurganj police stations rushed to the spot on receiving information and launched a search with SDRF support.

The man, a resident of Faizullaganj who runs a dhaba in Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT), and the woman reached the bridge together around noon, according to police. Eyewitnesses told police the two spoke for some time before the man jumped into the river, followed moments later by the woman. The woman’s father said she worked at a Hyundai showroom and had left home in the morning for work. Madiaon SHO Shivanand Mishra said a shoe believed to be the man’s was recovered from the bridge, while Thakurganj police found a slipper suspected to belong to the woman.

Despite operations continuing through late evening, neither person had been traced. Relatives of both individuals arrived at the bridge. The family later received a call asking them to reach the bridge, where they learnt about the incident. Police are investigating the circumstances, including whether an argument preceded the incident, though no confirmation has been made.
