Lucknow: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), seized 3.931 kg of Nepal-origin charas worth Rs 3.93 crore and arrested two alleged drug traffickers during an operation near Lucknow on Monday night.

A search of their luggage led to the recovery of 3.931 kg of Nepal-origin charas, according to the DRI. The seized narcotic substance was taken into custody under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and both suspects were arrested. The two suspects were intercepted while travelling in the general compartment of the Sapt Kranti Express. During questioning, the two suspects allegedly admitted that the contraband had been smuggled into India from Nepal and was being transported to New Delhi for delivery.

The agency said it has seized around 15 kg of charas in various districts of Uttar Pradesh over the past two months and arrested seven alleged traffickers. Nepal-origin charas, particularly hand-rubbed Himalayan charas, is considered a high-value illicit narcotic and commands a premium in illegal markets due to its potency and distinctive characteristics, according to the DRI.
