Muzaffarnagar : In a chilling case of an intentional hit-and-run turned murder, a motorist driving to his relatives’ home struck a 20-year-old law student standing near his bike and fled the scene, only to return with his brother-in-law and suffocate the victim to death upon realising he was still alive and could identify them.
The prime accused, 27-year-old Nazim of Laksar, Uttarakhand, was driving to his in-laws’ home in Saharanpur’s Jahirpur village on the night of Sept 23, according to police. Police arrested the two accused early Friday morning following a brief encounter near the Bhainsani bridge, during which both suspects sustained bullet injuries in their legs. he spotted a young man standing near a motorcycle While passing the Purkazi bypass. Suspecting the stranger had malicious intentions, Nazim rammed him with his car and sped away, knocking the victim to the ground. By analysing CCTV footage and mobile tower location data, police quickly zeroed in on the suspects. When signaled to stop, the duo attempted to flee. However, the motorcycle skidded and fell while the car jammed against roadside bricks. Cornered, the suspects opened fire on the police, who retaliated in self-defence, shooting both men in the legs. They were subsequently apprehended and hospitalised for treatment.
Rohan’s body was discovered in a roadside field in Hariti village on Thursday morning, prompting the police to form three dedicated teams to crack the case. The breakthrough came during a pre-dawn checkpoint operation near Bhainsani bridge on Friday, when police spotted the two men traveling separately in a car and on a motorcycle.
Murder of Hariti Village Pradhan’s Son Under Investigation
Nazim and his 21-year-old brother-in-law, Sawez, have been implicated in the murder of Rohan, the son of the pradhan (village head) of Hariti. After fearing that Rohan had identified them, the suspects suffocated him by covering his nose and mouth, leading to his death. Following the incident, they fled the scene with Rohan’s belongings, including his motorcycle, iPhone, and smartwatch.
