Ecom shipment racket busted, mobiles worth Rs 40L recovered
Bulandshahr : An inter-state racket allegedly involved in tampering with ecommerce shipments and stealing high-value mobile phones was uncovered in Baghpat with the arrest of three people, from whom police recovered 42 branded handsets worth around Rs 40 lakh. Police said the gang had been operating for around one-and-a-half years and allegedly caused losses of more than Rs 77 lakh to the company.
Police said the accused exploited the shipment unloading process at Baraut delivery hub. The arrested accused include Himanshu Kumar, a resident of Baraut, Abhishek Kumar of Babri in Shamli and Anil Singh of Baghpat. The alleged kingpin, Ashish Chaudhary, who was the hub in-charge, is absconding. They allegedly removed expensive mobile phones from parcels while avoiding detection by CCTV cameras and later sold the handsets in different cities in Uttarakhand.
The racket came to light after the company detected repeated discrepancies in shipments. An internal investigation found that parcels containing iPhones and other expensive products were being opened and the original goods replaced with low-value items.
