Kanpur: A leak in a PNG pipeline sparked a fire near Kulvanti Hospital under the Kakadev police station limits, in Kanpur on Friday, causing panic among passers-by and shopkeepers before emergency teams brought the flames under control.
Because of the hospital’s proximity, police reached the spot after receiving information, evacuated the surroundings as a precaution and diverted traffic. The pipeline suddenly developed a leak and high flames began rising from it, according to local residents. The gas company’s technical response team arrived with equipment and shut the main supply line for the affected block.
