In Agra, a 36-year-old man was reportedly strangled to death by his wife, stepson, minor stepdaughter, and two accomplices. The incident, which is under investigation by local police, stems from a dispute over Rs 15 lakh that the victim had received from selling a plot of land in Etah district, Uttar Pradesh. Authorities confirmed the details of the case on Friday.
Police revealed that co-accused Charan Singh, who had been in contact with Sangeeta for about 14 years, was asked to arrange poison.
“Further legal action is being taken,” said Kirtika Singh, DSP (City) Etah. Charan refused out of fear of getting caught, and instructions for the murder and subsequent cover-up were instead coordinated via WhatsApp calls . They initially headed toward a canal near Chhachaina, but changed their route upon seeing police, ultimately dumping the body in Hazara canal near Arthara. The crime came to light after Udayveer failed to return to his village for over a week, prompting his brother Ajab Singh to become suspicious. When Sangeeta gave evasive answers to his inquiries, Ajab lodged a formal complaint at Kotwali Nagar police station. Sangeeta, Anshul Singh, the minor stepdaughter and Charan Singh were arrested, while a search is underway for the fifth suspect. PAC divers and police teams have been deployed to recover Udayveer’s body from the canal.
Details of the Victim and Family Dynamics
Udayveer Singh, the victim, was a resident of Lalpur Kalyanpur village. He lived in a rented house in Hira Nagar with his wife, Sangeeta Singh, age 40, and their children. Sangeeta married Udayveer after the death of her first husband. From her previous marriage, she had a 19-year-old son, Anshul Singh, and a minor daughter. Together with Udayveer, they have a six-year-old daughter.
Following Udayveer’s murder, the suspects reportedly used an e-rickshaw, originally purchased by Udayveer to support Anshul’s livelihood, to transport his body.
Udayveer had sold a plot of land for Rs 15 lakh a few days prior to his death, sparking a financial dispute with Sangeeta, according to investigators. On the night of Sept 8, Sangeeta, Anshul, the minor stepdaughter and their associates allegedly strangled him.
