Divisional commissioner Dr Lokesh M. has ordered salary stoppage of the tehsildar, judicial tehsildar and three naib tehsildars of Kunda tehsil in Pratapgarh
Prayagraj: Divisional commissioner Dr Lokesh M has ordered withholding salary of tehsildar, judicial tehsildar and three naib tehsildars of Kunda tehsil in Pratapgarh until the pendency of revenue cases is brought down to zero, after finding more than 1,000 cases pending for over 90 days under Section 34. The commissioner also took serious note of the absence of 11 department officials during Samadhan Diwas and ordered that their salaries be withheld. He also reviewed pending cases under Sections 33 and 34. Finding over 1,000 Section 34 cases pending beyond 90 days, he sought explanations from the tehsildar, judicial tehsildar and three naib tehsildars but was not satisfied with their replies.

He said the programme was an important govt mechanism and mandatory attendance of concerned officials was necessary for timely disposal of public complaints. The commissioner issued the directions during a surprise inspection of Kunda tehsil on the occasion of Sampoorna Samadhan Diwas. During the public hearing, lekhpals were found absent from the hearing room. Officials informed the commissioner that lekhpals had stopped attending the room following a recent dispute with lawyers. Following the inspection, the Pratapgarh district magistrate directed the Kunda SDM to initiate suspension proceedings against the general secretary and secretary of the lekhpal association. Lokesh also examined disposal registers of complaints received during the July and Aug Samadhan Diwas programmes. Irregularities and incomplete entries were found in several disposal reports. In some cases, reports appeared to have been prepared without verifying the actual situation on the spot. Registration receipts also contained discrepancies, with the same receipt number recorded in different cases. As officials failed to provide satisfactory explanations, the commissioner ordered an adverse entry and departmental action against the clerk concerned and directed that all registers be corrected immediately. The commissioner warned Kunda SDM that negligence in record maintenance, official attendance and disposal of revenue cases would not be tolerated. Download the TOI App.
