FIR, action against 2 SDM for changes in 13k Pilibhit electors’ details

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Pilibhit : Following an FIR against two SDMs/EROs (electoral registration officer) — Mayank Goswami and Hemant Chaudhary — and an outsourced voter registration centre operator Anil Kumar over alleged rigging of voter rolls in 127-Pilibhit assembly seat, district magistrate (DM) Alok Kumar on Friday recommended to UP principal secretary to initiate departmental probe against the two SDMs.

The row involves “unauthorised changes” to at least 13,150 electors’ particulars in the constituency, which saw a close contest in 2022 state polls.

Given that such a major irregularity was uncovered there — a fact even acknowledged by the Election Commission — it would be better if he took note of that and addressed it. AICC member, Kumud Gangwar, added he would send a fresh representation to President of India, state governor and registrars of the Supreme Court as well as those of the Allahabad HC, requesting either a CBI or a judicial probe. New chief of UP Congress, Aradhana Misra, said on Friday: “I would suggest that the Union home minister takes a look at what has transpired in the Pilibhit Sadar assembly seat — a constituency represented by one of his own ministers.
