FIR against BHU official for assaulting wife

Varanasi: A 35-year-old woman has lodged an FIR against her husband, a deputy registrar at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), alleging that he assaulted and threatened her over his purported relationship with another woman associated with the varsity.

Police Register FIR in Domestic Violence Case

Raj Kumar Sharma, the officer in charge at the Lanka police station, confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include Section 85 for cruelty by a husband, Section 115(2) for causing hurt, and Section 351(2) for criminal intimidation. A woman sub-inspector has been designated to lead the investigation into the matter.

Allegations of Infidelity Cause Family Strain

A woman has filed a complaint alleging that her husband, A Velu, is involved in an extramarital relationship with a nursing officer at a hospital operated by the university. This alleged affair has reportedly led to significant discord within her family life.

The complainant further stated that the marital dispute had adversely affected the mental well-being of her children.

He said further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
