Forty-two private basic education institutions in Pilibhit district received closure notices on Thursday. The officials stated that these schools were operating without the necessary recognition or exceeding the permitted class limits. The institutions are required to cease operations within three working days.
The institutions were warned that failure to comply would invite a fine of Rs 1 lakh and legal action. They would also be liable to pay an additional fine of Rs 10,000 for each day of non-compliance, officials said. There are 600 private basic education schools in the district, according to official data.
The defaulting schools have also been directed to ensure that their students are admitted to nearby recognised schools so that their academic year is not disrupted. Stay updated with the latest Bareilly news.
Pilibhit basic shiksha adhikari (BSA) Roshni Singh said the action was being taken under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, and the Uttar Pradesh Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011, and clarified that “no educational institution would be deemed valid unless duly recognised by the basic education department”. District basic education coordinator Rakesh Patel told TOI that DM Gyanendra Singh has constituted a monitoring committee in each of the five tehsils. “Each committee comprises the SDM concerned, circle officer and block education officer, and will verify whether private schools are operating as per law,” Patel said. “They have been asked to submit compliance reports to BSA’s office within five days,” Singh said.
