Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav poses for a photo with Lord Buddha’s idol during the press conference at party office, in Lucknow on Saturday
Lucknow: Presenting a ‘white paper’ on what he described as the ‘worryingly poor state of healthcare’ under BJP govt, former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said if voted to form govt in 2027 polls, Samajwadi Party will ensure that everyone who walks into a hospital gets complete and free and cardless medical care. “There is one doctor for every 16,000 people in Uttar Pradesh . At least 41% of posts in govt hospitals are lying vacant,” Akhilesh said.
Akhilesh pointed out a recent incident reported from a govt hospital in Lucknow where a youth’s hand had to be amputated after a vigo cannula was implanted erroneously on his hand, leading to serious infection.
After SP will form govt, we will ensure that everyone who walks into a hospital is provided free medical care without presenting any card whatsoever,” he said. “The present state of medical facilities in the state is in such a pathetic condition that it seems that the entire healthcare system is on ventilator. He cited another instance from another district where hospital authorities declared a man dead and sent the body to the postmortem house. However, later the man was found to be alive.
He added that patients suffering from both routine and serious illnesses, including cancer, will be provided with free treatment.
