Gaming addiction lands 22yo in jail after faking robbery
Police recovered Rs 40,200 in cash and a mobile phone from him. Police said Sumit had lodged a complaint on Sept 14, alleging that three unidentified men had assaulted and robbed him of his mobile phone and Rs 1,04,500 in cash. A case was registered under section 309(6) of the BNS and a team was formed to trace the alleged robbers. Police said Sumit took advantage of the owner’s absence on Sept 13 and transferred money from the store to his personal accounts and accounts linked to online gaming. Following the investigation, section 309 (6) was removed, while sections 217, 305 (A) and 317 (2) of the BNS were added.
Police said he later hid the mobile phone and remaining cash behind a plaque amid bushes near Chakroad Tiraha. He allegedly staged the robbery to conceal the embezzlement, claiming that his mobile phone and some of the cash had been looted. SP Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said, “Sumit Kumar, son of Mahesh Kumar and a resident of Mansoorpur village, was arrested by a police team led by Chandpur inspector Rahul Singh on Friday.
Police Conclude Robbery Complaint Was Fabricated
Police have determined that the robbery complaint filed by Sumit was fabricated. During the investigation, officers identified inconsistencies in his account. Furthermore, Sumit allegedly confessed to taking money from the cash counter at Kapoor Medical Store without the owner’s consent during questioning.
