Meerut: A Baghpat court has sentenced 32-year-old BSc agriculture graduate Amar Pal Tomar to life imprisonment for killing his father and two sisters, with the prosecution relying on the testimony of his mother, Shashiprabha, who witnessed the incident.
Shashiprabha lodged an FIR at Baraut police station on Aug 15, 2022, stating that her husband Brijpal Tomar, 60, a farmer, their son Amar and daughter Jyoti, 22, were sleeping in one room of the house on the night of Aug 14, while daughter Anuradha alias Mithu, 17, was in another room, according to ADGC Ashok Saini. Shashiprabha was on the terrace with her daughter Pooja when she heard Jyoti screaming around 9.30pm and rushed downstairs.
She told police that she saw Amar repeatedly attacking his father with a basaka, a sharp-edged agricultural weapon, before he attacked both his sisters and fled the house on a motorcycle through the rear door. “He killed them right before my eyes, grabbed me by my throat and threatened to kill me as well,” Shashiprabha said. Police arrested Amar and recovered the weapon allegedly used in the crime before filing a chargesheet against him, while the prosecution examined six witnesses, including Shashiprabha, during the trial. After considering the evidence, the court convicted Amar and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The prosecution said Amar had been disowned from the family property by his father about a month before the killings over his alcohol addiction and alleged fights with people, while he had also objected to his sisters going out of the house and working and was suspicious of their activities.
