Following the police complaint, Archana agreed to appear before the authorities to record her statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). On July 28, 2021, while Archana was travelling in a vehicle with her husband towards Dataganj police station to record her statement, her brother Rachit, along with three accomplices — Pushpendra Kumar (26), Chandrapal (50), and Kunwar Pal (52) — intercepted the vehicle just outside the police station complex. The court, in its order published on Thursday, also imposed a fine of Rs 26,000 on Rachit, while Pushpendra, Chandrapal and Kunwar Pal were fined Rs 25,000 each.
Meerut: An additional district and sessions court in UP’s Budaun has sentenced four men, including the victim’s brother, to life imprisonment for killing the 23-year-old woman outside a police station after she married against her family’s wishes. Additional sessions judge Rinku (only first name available) pronounced the verdict after finding all four accused guilty under IPC section 302 (murder). Govt counsel Sanjeev Kumar Gupta told TOI, “Archana had married Devendra Singh , a resident of neighbouring Bareilly district, at an Arya Samaj temple in July 2021.
He added, “Furious over the love marriage, Archana’s brother, Rachit Kumar (25) filed a complaint against Devendra and his family members, alleging kidnapping, although she had gone of her own will.” The marriage was against the wishes of Archana ’s family.
