The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kanpur: The world turned upside down for a woman who went to visit her 82-year-old father on Dhanteras , only to find his decomposed body lying on a bed and her 45-year-old mentally challenged brother sitting beside it, apparently unaware of his death.

Srivastava had run a private clinic but stopped practising after 2015. Archana told police that Vijay had earlier worked but lost his job a few years ago.

Srivastava lived with his youngest son, Vijay, at Aman Enclave under the Panki police station limits, according to police. Panki inspector Dinesh Singh Bisht said the body had been sent for postmortem and the exact cause of death would be known after the report is received. However, she found her father dead at his flat in Ratanpur, while her brother was sitting near the body. They found Srivastava’s body lying on a bed, with food kept beside it. Vijay was sitting nearby. They subsequently informed the police. He is survived by Vijay and his three married daughters, Archana, Bhavna and Preeti.

On Friday, when Archana and her husband visited the flat, they noticed a strong foul smell after entering.

Because of his alleged mental condition, srivastava cooked for his son.

Family members said Srivastava and Vijay lived alone. Rotten food and dirty utensils were found in the kitchen, while belongings were scattered and the flat was in a filthy condition.
