JE assaulted, detained during power theft check in Bijnor; 1 held
Bijnor : A junior engineer (JE) of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited was allegedly detained and assaulted by a group of people during a power theft inspection in Bagadpur village under Chandpur police station on Sept 18. The incident occurred around 3 pm, while a purported video of the incident surfaced on social media on Sept 22. Circle officer Desh Deepak said, “Police filed an FIR against six named accused, including Navneet, Sanjeev, Sudhanshu, Ankit and Mohit, besides 20-30 unidentified people.

Sharma said the team began videography to document the alleged irregularities, following which an argument broke out. As per the complaint, JE Sudeep Kumar Sharma and a power department team found a cut in the incoming cable of an electricity meter, allegedly being used to illegally run a heater. The connection was also reportedly supplying electricity to shops outside the house. He alleged that the village pradhan’s husband Navneet Kumar and some local farmer leaders detained him, while four to five people abused and assaulted him after making him sit on a cot.
