Kanpur: A 23-year-old woman who allegedly went missing on Sept 28 while on her way to teach tuition classes near her home in the Govind Nagar area was found dead beside a railway track on Friday, police said.
DCP West Deependra Nath Chaudhary said action would be taken after an investigation into the family’s complaint. The woman’s family members, however, alleged negligence on the part of the police in tracing her. They claimed that personnel at Govind Nagar police station turned the family away when they approached them to register a missing person’s complaint, and that the complaint was filed only two days later. Police have sent the body for a postmortem examination, while a forensic team has collected evidence from the spot. He added that the allegations of police negligence would also be examined and appropriate action taken against any personnel found responsible.
The woman’s father said she left home around 6 pm on Sept 28 to teach tuition classes nearby but did not return. The family initially presumed she might have stayed with an acquaintance before searching for her among relatives and in nearby areas. They added that Ruchi’s mobile phone was switched off, further raising their suspicions.
