District magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar garlanded the statue of Gandhi and offered floral tributes to the portrait of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri. In his address, the DM stated that the lives of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri symbolise simplicity, humility, sacrifice and service to the nation. Gandhi gave a new direction to the country’s freedom movement through truth and non-violence. The DM stated that Shastri’s life stands as an exemplary model of simplicity, humility and service to the nation. His mantra ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ continues to inspire the country. ‘Jai Vigyan’ was subsequently added to it, and India is making continuous strides in the fields of science and technology, he added. He urged the residents of the district to adopt the ideals, values and conduct of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri in their lives and to accord the highest priority to the spirit of service, sensitivity, transparency and public interest in administrative functions as well.
