Ramjeevan Kushwaha, under the influence of alcohol, allegedly struck his son Abhishek (L) with a brick following a heated argument concerning money.
KANPUR: A man allegedly killed his 22-year-old son with a brick and injured his wife after a dispute over money from a land sale at Chitwakheda Rasdhan in the Sikandra area of Kanpur Dehat. Police registered a murder case and launched raids to arrest him.
Sikandra police station in-charge Sudhakar Singh said a murder case had been registered against Ramjeevan on Anand’s complaint. CO Saurabh Verma said teams were conducting raids to arrest the accused. The family informed police thereafter.
Ramjeevan Kushwaha had recently received Rs 12 lakh after selling his field and was allegedly spending the money on intoxicants. On Tuesday night, Ramjeevan left home with a bag containing about Rs 5 lakh and consumed intoxicants at a shop in the town. His elder son, Abhishek Kumar, and other family members opposed this. His younger son, Anand, went there and asked him to return home, leading to an argument. Anand then called Abhishek, who took the bag from his father and returned home with the cash. At about 11pm, after the family had gone to sleep, Ramjeevan allegedly repeatedly struck Abhishek on the head and face with an interlocking brick. Abhishek’s mother, Usha, was injured in the hand when she tried to intervene. Ramjeevan then fled. Abhishek supported his family by driving a tractor and wanted to use the proceeds from the latest land sale to build a house. Download the TOI App.
Ramjeevan had previously sold about one bigha and four biswa of land and allegedly spent the proceeds on intoxicants.
Tragic Outcome Following Hospitalization
Abhishek was taken to a nearby hospital by Anand and local residents after a serious incident. He received initial treatment before being transferred to a private facility in Kalyanpur, Kanpur, where he unfortunately passed away on Wednesday.
