Kanpur: Police on Sunday arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly killing his 70-year-old mother at Malakpur village after she refused to give him money for liquor. Police said Balwan, son of late Ram Asrey, confessed during questioning to assaulting his mother, Shrimati Devi, on Sept 26. He was arrested beneath Chirhauli bridge around 8.15 am following a tip-off. Police received information through Dial 112 on Sept 26 that a woman’s body had been found in Malakpur. On Veer Singh’s complaint, police registered a case against Balwan and an unidentified person under Section 103(1) of BNS.
Balwan was addicted to liquor and had sold his share of family land amid a dispute, according to police. He allegedly reached his younger brother Veer Singh’s house while heavily intoxicated and demanded money from his mother, who was alone. When she refused, Balwan allegedly assaulted her and repeatedly threw her to the ground. She died at the spot from serious head injuries. Police and a forensic team collected evidence and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Station House Officer Jitendra Kumar Tiwari and sub-inspector Mohd Shakeel Khan’s team made the arrest. Police are checking Balwan’s criminal history and have initiated legal action.
