Kanpur: The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Banda apprehended a 37-year-old man on Friday in connection with the trafficking of a 22-year-old woman. The incident reportedly occurred in November 2025, when the woman was allegedly taken from Chitrakoot to Haryana. It is claimed that she was sold for Rs 1.38 lakh and coerced into another marriage.
The woman lodged a complaint with the Banda AHTU on Nov 22, 2025, alleging that her mother and brother had brought her from Chitrakoot to Banda on Nov 20, 2025. She alleged that she was sold to a Haryana resident identified as Krishna Kumar for Rs 1.38 lakh.
Police said the accused, Premchander, a resident of Sonhuli village, allegedly acted as an intermediary in the case. Three other accused including the woman’s brother, Jaynarayan and her second husband, Krishna Kumar along with a third accomplice, Balram had earlier been arrested and sent to jail, police said. She was then taken to Haryana and forced into another marriage despite already being married, according to the complaint.
