Kanpur: A 12-year-old ragpicker was allegedly killed after being run over by a speeding bus in Bharthana town of Etawah district early Sunday.

The deceased, Darshan , a resident of Mulayam Nagar, was collecting plastic bottles from a drain near a culvert at a turn near an SBI lane when a bus heading towards Usrahar ran over him, killing him on the spot, according to police. His companion, Shiva, who lives near Etawah railway station, said they collected and sold plastic bottles and other scrap for a living. Shiva said the group, which also included Asif of Nagla Kothi in Umarsenda and Cheeta of Saifai, had slept on the platform of a shop near the culvert on Saturday night. On Sunday morning, Darshan was removing plastic bottles from the drain when the bus took the turn and ran over him.
