Prayagraj : North Central Railway (NCR) has digitised over 4 crore records as part of its efforts to streamline office functioning, reduce dependence on physical files and improve access to official documents.
The exercise has also helped free around 25,000 square feet of office space and created digital storage capacity of more than 58 terabytes. During the ongoing special cleanliness drive across the zone, around 200 metric tonnes of paper have been disposed of. NCR general manager Naresh Pal Singh released a documentary on the record digitisation programme, highlighting its role in promoting a digital work culture and systematic preservation of official records. The zone said the programme would also contribute to a more environmentally sustainable system of record management. Divisional railway managers from different divisions and senior railway officials were present on the occasion. The removal of obsolete physical records has helped optimise office space while reducing the burden of maintaining and retrieving paper files. The digitised records can be accessed more easily, reducing the time and effort required for locating important documents. The programme is also aimed at ensuring safer preservation of records and encouraging greater use of technology in routine administrative work. Singh directed officials and staff to continue the digitisation process systematically and progressively cover the remaining records. Download the TOI App.
