Agra: Food safety officials in Muzaffarnagar seized more than 14,000 litres of suspected adulterated milk after raiding a milk chilling centre allegedly producing synthetic milk by mixing milk with chemicals, including detergent, ahead of the festive season.

Authorities shut down the centre and registered an FIR against the owner under BNS sections 274 (food adulteration) and 275 (sale of noxious or unfit food), among other provisions.

Our teams are maintaining continuous surveillance, and prompt action will be taken wherever suspicious products are found,” said Archana Dheeran, assistant commissioner of the food safety and drug department in Muzaffarnagar. Ten samples of the seized substances have been sent for laboratory analysis. Police are also tracing the source of the raw materials and the network through which the suspected adulterated milk was distributed. “During the festive season, demand for milk and mawa (milk solids) used in sweets increases rapidly.
