In Shamli, authorities have dismissed recent social media claims linking the murder of Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Baliyan to the Delhi-NCR-based Gogi gang. Police characterized these posts as “fake” and a “publicity stunt.” In response to the incident, law enforcement has ramped up monitoring of online platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation and ensure public safety following the high-profile murder.
Police said two suspected shooters, Mohit, 24, and Sumit , 25, both from Sonipat, were killed in an encounter with a SWAT team in Shamli’s industrial area on Aug 31. Another account bearing the name of wanted suspect Satyam posted a 17-second video featuring his photograph and a voiceover threatening two more killings, which was later removed.
Posts claiming that “200 bullets would be fired” had also been allegedly circulating on social media. Police sources said some people could be attempting to gain publicity by associating themselves with the case. Shamli SP N P Singh said the posts linking the accused to the Gogi gang were fake and that police were continuously monitoring online platforms. He said legal action against key members of the gang would also be intensified. As a precaution, we had already provided security to the Baliyan family,” the SP said.
Search is underway to nab two other suspects, Satyam and Aryan, both from Karnal, as well as alleged conspirators, including Shahpuriya. Meanwhile, Baliyan’s family expressed confidence in the police investigation and sought financial assistance from the govt and guaranteed police protection. “Officers are tracking the remaining suspects.
