Prof AR Siddiqui of the department of Geography has been invited in Denver, Colorado (USA)
Prof Siddiqui is a member of the Geoarchaeology section of the GSA. His participation in the Denver meeting will provide an international platform for presenting his research.
He earlier attended a GSA meeting in Anaheim, California.
Prayagraj: Making the institution proud, the head of the department of geography at Allahabad University (AU), Prof AR Siddiqui, will attend the Geological Society of America’s (GSA) Connects 2026 meeting in Denver, Colorado, and present his research on changing hydro-ecological conditions and vegetation in the arid landscape of western Rajasthan. The GSA’s technical programme is scheduled from Oct 11 to 14.
Prof Siddiqui will present his study titled “The Changes in Seasonal Hydro-Ecological Trajectory Regime and Significant Vegetation Changes in the Arid Landscape of Western Rajasthan in India”. Changes in moisture regimes and monsoon dynamics, along with extreme weather events, are affecting vegetation patterns in the desert landscape, according to the study. His research examines recent changes in land surface temperature, built-up areas and fractional vegetation cover in the desert landscape. It also studies changes in pre- and post-monsoon hydro-ecological moisture regimes and their spatial patterns. The findings are significant for assessing the future sustainability of agriculture and hydro-ecological systems in the region, particularly in meeting the requirements of food and fodder. The study aims to provide insights that could help in planning measures for restoring and maintaining sustainable agricultural and hydro-ecological conditions in the arid region. Prof Siddiqui will also participate in a field trip covering Fourmile Creek, mountain watershed dynamics and the route from Pikes Peak to Canon City. The field programme will provide an opportunity to study geological and watershed processes in the region.
