On Friday, a new welfare package was announced for wildlife protectors at the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh recognized the efforts of 140 Bagh Mitras, along with forest personnel, guides, and drivers, for their significant contributions to wildlife conservation. This initiative aims to enhance support for those dedicated to protecting the region’s biodiversity.
Lucknow : Sarojini Nagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh honoured 140 Bagh Mitras, along with forest personnel, guides and drivers, for their contribution to wildlife conservation at Pilibhit Tiger Reserve on Friday. As part of the programme, 140 Bagh Mitras were felicitated with certificates, torches and sarees for their role in protecting tigers and other wildlife. The forest department also received 50 raincoats and 10 medical and first-aid kits, while guides and drivers associated with eco-tourism were honoured and provided with essential equipment. Rajeshwar Singh announced that a special insurance camp would be organised during Wildlife Week in October 2026 to facilitate life insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh and medical insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh for eligible Bagh Mitras. He also announced cash awards of Rs 25,000 each for five Bagh Mitras who demonstrate exceptional conservation work over the next year.

DFO Manish Singh said an advanced Leopard Rescue Centre would soon be inaugurated. The event, organised by Environment Warriors in association with Shri Maa Pitambara Baglamukhi Siddhi Peeth Uttarakhand Trust, marked the 10th wildlife conservation initiative in the Terai region. To strengthen livelihoods, profiles of conservation workers will be compiled and linked to suitable employment opportunities. Singh stressed that those safeguarding forests and wildlife should themselves be assured of insurance, healthcare, safety equipment and social security.
