Gandhi had referred to the Manusmriti while addressing the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme on August 22.
Speaking to ANI, Khan said, “I recite both the Kalma and the Shahada. Khan said she respected Gandhi’s right to freedom of speech but questioned his decision to display photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in the background during the programme. Why did he display the photograph of Mohan Bhagwat?” she said. He will have to answer for why he did this,” Khan said. “The way the Manusmriti has been maligned: by picking out a single chapter and twisting the words, attempts have been made to create a false impression,” she said.

He was speaking about women’s independence and argued that a woman’s identity should not be defined by her relationship with her father, husband or sons. Khan, who is a Supreme Court lawyer, also slammed the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha for using images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanth while speaking on Manusmriti. He will have to answer for why he did this,” news agency ANI quoted her as saying.
