Shamli : Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Baliyan (35), a resident of Bantkheda in Shamli district, was shot dead on Wednesday evening while returning from a gym in CB Gupta Colony here. Baliyan rose to prominence with his hit song ‘Bhari court mein goli marenge…’ which has garnered over 54 million views on YouTube. A heavy police contingent rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.
Three to four armed assailants opened fire on Baliyan soon after he stepped out of the gym, according to police. Shamli SP NP Singh said the attackers were armed and fled after the assault. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police have begun probing the motive behind the murder and are hunting for the killers. Originally from Bantkheda in Shamli, he had been living and working in Rohtak and Sonipat in Haryana, establishing himself as a singer and actor in the Haryanvi music industry. He also maintained an active YouTube presence with around 366k subscribers and several songs that have collectively amassed crores of views. At the time of the incident, Baliyan was preparing to contest the district panchayat elections .
