Haryanvi singer Ankit Balyan was gunned down outside a gym in Shamli district on Wednesday night
Balyan had more than 3.66 lakh subscribers on YouTube and featured in videos as a singer and performer alongside different collaborators. Superintendent of Police M P Singh said police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the shooting, PTI reported.
The incident took place in the Kotwali police station area when Balyan was coming out of the gym, police said. Police teams have been formed to arrest the accused,” he said. Police teams are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers and trace their movements, officials said. He said Balyan was brutally killed after 18 rounds were fired at him and described reports of his grieving mother holding her son’s body on the road as “heart-wrenching”.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav condemned the killing and called for the case to be examined from the angle of political rivalry. “The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and an investigation is underway. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, in a post on X, condemned the killing and criticised the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.
